"Week of the environment" in Berlin
"Hui-Machine" for the President of Germany Mr. Horst Köhler
The association „solarproject-freilassing e. V." presented its project "solar lanterns for the developing countries" in Berlin.
Because of the week of environment, the german president Mr. Horst Köhler
together with the german federal foundation environment (DBU), invited the most innovative
and ecological projects to the park of "Schloss Bellevue" in Berlin (official
residence of the german president). The association „solarprojekt-freilassing e. V."
was chosen by a jury as one of 170 enterprises among 400 candidates for this
event. Among considerable enterprises of energy supply, environment techniques,
natural conservation and educational projects, the project "solar light for
development countries" was on display with a separate stand.
In cooperation with vocational pupils and their employers in the year 2000
a mobile solar lantern system was developed, containing a lantern and a solar
module. This system has proved its worth with 6.800 units in more than 25
countries around the world.
The improvement of the solar lantern system and the build up of another solar
workshop in Tanzania was sponsored by the DBU and by the Rotary-Club
Freilassing-Laufen with considerable amounts of money. That way, the solar
lantern with LED light found great attention on the exhibition. The solar
workshops in development countries spread the solar lanterns using a rental
system which allows people in rural areas to use brigth, healthy and
nonhazardous light and to get the full service for this high quality product for
their rental fees.
The managers of the association, Dr. Vigil Berleth and Mr. Siegfried Popp with
their wifes
and another expert, Mr. Alfred Brendler of the State Vocational School of Wasserburg
built up an exhibition stand in the beautiful park of the "Schloss Bellevue", and oversaw the exhibition.
„I am hooked about all the ideas, projects and initiatives" was the
conclusion of Mr.
president Koehler at the end of the exhibition. According to the DBU press
officer Franz-Georg Elpers almost 12.000 visitors have seen
the exhibition
During the closing ceremony for exhibitors and the press, Mr. Siegfried Popp personally thanked the German president and gave him a selfmade "hui-machine". This machine, with propellers going forward and backward, made much fun for all. By this the wish was expressed that in environment protection and developement aid things always will go foreward and never backwards.
